As the grapes ripe and the technical teams decide that they are in optimal conditions, the harvest begins to take shape and grow until its end on the last days of May. Here are some initial appreciations of our experts in what is already the 2018 harvest of Concha y Toro.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As tradition,\u00a0<a title=\"From the Limar\u00ed Valley: Concha y Toro begins a new harvest season\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conchaytoro.com\/wine-blog\/from-the-limari-valley-concha-y-toro-begins-a-new-harvest-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>the harvest started at Limar\u00ed Valley<\/strong><\/a>, in Coquimbo region, beginning to cut the first ripe clusters of Chardonnay on January 29th.\u00a0<strong>These grapes will go to sparkling wines<\/strong>\u00a0as well as to different lines of Concha y Toro wines.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u00a0<strong>Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Syrah harvest will continue<\/strong>\u00a0in this semi-desert climate valley, with low rainfall and located 300 kilometers at the North of Santiago. Its unique characteristics, with mineral-laden soils and the freshness of the Andes Mountains, plus the vivacious sun of this region, allows Limar\u00ed to be one of the valleys that offers the greatest potential for white grapes as well for cold climate reds.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-image-wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/conchaytoro.com\/content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Chardonnay-Limari.jpg\" alt=\"Chardonnay-Limari\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Due to the lower temperatures experienced this year<\/strong>, the maturity of the grapes came more slowly and allowed them to be harvested at their best, with tranquility: \u201cAs it is a colder year, we will have very interesting wines, as they should be fresher and with more citrus fruit expression in the case of Chardonnay, and loaded with berries aromas in the case of Pinot Noir and Syrah\u201d, explains\u00a0<strong>Javier Villarroel, Senior Winemaker at Limar\u00ed Valley.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Analyzing the preparation for harvest time in central valleys such as\u00a0<strong>Maipo, Cachapoal and Colchagua<\/strong>, it is important to take into account the climatological and differentiating data of this year, compared to previous harvests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rodolfo Ch\u00e1vez, Winemaker and Manager of Don Melchor Vineyard at Puente Alto<\/strong>, comments: \u201cIt was a rather cold year and at the same time, it had an important concentration of rainfall during the months of May to October. These factors, such as the high average temperatures recorded between November and January, generated a delay of 12 days in the sprouting of the Cabernet Sauvignon of Puente Alto, confirming it was a warm year as the season has gone and slightly extending the period of verizon in Cabernet Sauvignons, compared to other years\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-image-wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/conchaytoro.com\/content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Harvest-time-in-Puente-Alto-Tiempos-de-vendimia-en-Puente-Alto-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Harvest-time-in-Puente-Alto-Tiempos-de-vendimia-en-Puente-Alto-1024\u00d7683\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/683;\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>According to this analysis, Rodolfo Ch\u00e1vez estimates that\u00a0<strong>2018 harvest of Puente Alto\u2019s terroir will be optimal<\/strong>\u00a0and in line with what was estimated and with healthy grapes of impeccable quality: \u201cToday we are finishing the discharge and we will begin the final counts to be clear about the yields of this year. We are coordinated with all the winemaking and viticulture team, so that the beginning of this harvest in Puente Alto is on time and with the expected results\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>harvest is the most important period of the year<\/strong>\u00a0for the wine industry, involving the participation of a large number of collaborators throughout all the valleys of the country.
