{"id":39970,"date":"2020-12-21T10:06:44","date_gmt":"2020-12-21T13:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vinacyt.com\/?p=39970"},"modified":"2020-12-24T10:07:49","modified_gmt":"2020-12-24T13:07:49","slug":"don-melchor-leads-top-100-chilean-wines-ranking-by-james-suckling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vinacyt.com\/en\/noticia\/excellence\/don-melchor-leads-top-100-chilean-wines-ranking-by-james-suckling\/","title":{"rendered":"Don Melchor leads top 100 Chilean wines ranking by James Suckling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The American journalist announced the ranking of the top 100 wines he tasted in Chile in 2020, when the icon Don Melchor was ranked N\u00ba1 and seven other Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro labels stood out in prominent positions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The prestigious annual top 100 Wines of Chile 2020 ranking was announced, written by the American wine journalist James Suckling, which includes the selection of the 100 best wines he has tasted during this year.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, the Cabernet Sauvignon icon Don Melchor 2018 obtained the first place in the exclusive ranking, a vintage that was assessed by the critic with the perfect score of 100 points in his last report.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, seven other company labels were selected by Suckling in the Top 100:<\/p>\n<p>Almaviva 2018 obtained 98 points.<br \/>\nCono Sur Single Vineyard Block 25 Syrah 2018, 95 points.<br \/>\nMarques de Casa Concha Pinot Noir 2018, 94 points.<br \/>\nTerrunyo Carmenere 2018, 94 points.<br \/>\nCarm\u00edn de Peumo Carmenere 2017, 95 points.<br \/>\nEPU of Vi\u00f1a Almaviva 2017, 94 points.<br \/>\nCono Sur 20 Barrels Limited Edition Pinot Noir 2018, 93 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon Melchor has taken the No. 1 spot with its 2018 vintage in our Chile Top 100 list, after it took off on its own last year splitting from its parent wine group, the largest in Latin America, Concha y Toro. Now, the wines are made in its own winery while Chief Winemaker Enrique Tirado is still at the helm. The Vi\u00f1a Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto 2018 is all about youth, depth and energy that unveils the beautiful poise of a top Chilean cabernet sauvignon with its dense but superbly polished tannin and tension, knitting up a full but linear and seamless mouthfeel.
