We are celebrating International Recycling Day with the initiatives that contribute to recycling at the different subsidiaries of Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
This Monday, May 17 is International Recycling Day, offering us a chance to reflect on how recycling initiatives contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To mark this event, we want to tell you more about our recycling efforts at Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In line with its goal to achieve zero waste to landfill in 2020, Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro\u00a0 established a strategic alliance with the cleaning supplies company Virutex Ilko to enhance the plastic waste liner pet which is used as raw material for the production from a 100% recycled and biodegradable dishwasher container. In addition, in 2019 it concluded an agreement with Haproba Uva Chile SpA., in which the company annually delivers a total of 100 tons of organic waste for <\/span>the production of grape bagasse flour,<\/b> a functional food with excellent nutritional properties, and a clear circular economy success story.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, in Argentina, our subsidiary <\/span>Trivento<\/b> has implemented a waste management program covering waste classification, sorting and final disposal, which to date has achieved positive results. In total, 87.2% of solid waste generated by the company in 2020 was of organic origin (plant remains, marc and stalks), 6% was recyclable waste (glass, paper, plastic and metals), 0.1% was hazardous waste, and 6.7% was household waste. These achievements have been possible thanks to actions such as composting, recyclable waste management in collaboration with cooperatives of urban reclaimers and companies such as Corpa, Maderas Pl\u00e1sticas and Reciclarg, management of technological waste that has already reached its useful life, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally, our Californian winery <\/span>Fetzer Vineyards<\/b> has reduced its annual waste sent to landfill by 98% since 1990,<\/span> becoming <\/span>the first wine company to obtain the Zero Waste certification from the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council<\/b> in 2014. The company\u2019s recycling initiatives include collecting grape marc to be used as compost in its vineyards following the wine production process.
