With the publication of these advances, Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro confirms its pioneering spirit in sustainable practices, helping to reduce the risks posed by climate change and demonstrating its leadership and commitment in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro presented its SBT Progress Report 2020 this Wednesday, October 27, document that reports the company’s progress in reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on the Science Based Target (SBTi) methodology. \u201cHaving science-based objectives and making our progress known allows us to share the path we have traveled towards a common goal, which impact is global. In addition, it allows us to communicate in a transparent way regarding an issue as relevant as global warming\u201d, indicated Valentina Lira, Sustainability Director.<\/span><\/p>\n Through the webinar Path to Zero Emission: Progress Report of Goals Based on Science, Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro reported that already in 2020 it decreased, from the base year 2017, its greenhouse gas emission by 19%, placing it 7 percentage points above its original goal for 2022. The emissions of 2020 corresponded to 218 thousand tCO2e. The reduction by scopes indicates that in the area of \u200b\u200bown emissions (scope 1) and indirect emissions (scope 2), mitigation initiatives were carried out through the incorporation of renewable energies in the company’s electricity matrix, mainly through energy purchase contracts for large-scale installations and for the implementation of solar plants in vineyard areas. In relation to indirect emissions from the supply chain (scope 3), the decrease has been achieved thanks to the work carried out with suppliers, mainly packaging, who have worked on this commitment to measure and reduce emissions since 2011 together with Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe results we have achieved to date show us that we have made progress on our path towards decarbonization. This is an incentive that encourages us to continue with the efforts made, motivating our suppliers and the wineries in our industry to commit to a resilient and low-carbon economy. We must build that future together\u201d, commented Valentina Lira.<\/span><\/p>\n Vi\u00f1a Concha y Toro became in 2019 the first Latin American company to have goals aligned with the objective of keeping the global temperature increase below 1.5\u00baC. The commitment is to reduce absolute emissions from its own operations by 55% and indirect emissions from its supply chain by 55% by 2030, compared to 2017, more than half of its base year emissions.
