The renowned US wine critic recognized Almaviva in his “Top 100 Wines Of The World 2022” ranking.

The renowned US wine critic James Suckling published in November the ranking “Top 100 Wines Of The World 2022”, where the presence of Almaviva 2020 is highlighted in the 97th position.

In his report, James Suckling states that the 2020 vintage is “a medium to full-bodied Almaviva with soft, silky tannins and plenty of black and blue fruit that provides plenty of charm now. Voluptuous and flattering on the palate, characterized by tension and taut texture. Very long. This is the 25th anniversary of bottling. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Carmenere, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.”

Almaviva has celebrated 25 vintages since its creation in 1997 by the joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild, of Château Mouton-Rothschild, and Viña Concha y Toro. This milestone was celebrated in London by Michel Friou, Almaviva’s winemaker since 2007, together with the brand’s Commercial Director, Felipe Feliú.

Almaviva put its 2020 vintage on sale in September at La Place de Bordeaux, selling out in the first few hours, as did the winery’s second wine, Epu.

The wine has a 96-point score from The Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez, who noted that the 2020 vintage has a “similar aromatic palate” to the 2019, “with a clear note of baked peppers,” and while it is more tannic, there is more tension than the powerful 2017 vintage.
