With 93 points, Amelia becomes the Best Chardonnay in Chile according to Wine Spectator
This recognition demonstrates the great potential of the Limarí DO to produce high-end Chardonnay.
Amelia Chardonnay, part of Concha y Toro’s high-end portfolio and sourced from the Quebrada Seca vineyard in the prestigious Limarí DO, has more than demonstrated the great potential of this terroir to produce high-end Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Its 2023 vintage, composed 100% of Chardonnay, stands out for offering a more ethereal, fine, and tense profile, characteristics that derive from the exceptional qualities of the soil and climate of the Quebrada Seca vineyard.
This new vintage was rated 93 points by the prestigious US magazine, Wine Spectator, and its Senior Editor, Aaron Romano, described it as: “A complex, multi-layered white, with spicy pastry, toasted almond and verbena notes joining an energetic, lingering core of baked apple with clove and grilled lemon. Finishes with good length and a saline, mineral freshness focused on core flavors”.
Marcelo Papa, Concha y Toro’s Technical Director and winemaker, comments: “We are very pleased that Amelia Chardonnay has received this prestigious 93-point recognition for the second time, an achievement that reaffirms and validates the hard work we have been doing in our Quebrada Seca vineyard. Thanks to the potential of this exceptional terroir in the Limarí Valley and the great technical team at Concha y Toro, we have been able to create wines of the highest quality and precision, and Amelia is a faithful reflection of all this effort”.
It is important to note that Amelia Chardonnay is the only Chilean wine to have received 93 points in this specialized magazine – the highest score awarded to a Chardonnay by the magazine – making it the highest-ranked Chardonnay in Chile and the leader of the 2023 vintage of Chilean whites in Wine Spectator.
