Viña Concha y Toro announces changes to its Board of Directors
Under the management of Alfonso Larraín Santa María, the company consolidated its internationalization, forming an extensive distribution network of 12 offices, which has enabled it to position itself among the leading companies in the sector worldwide.
Viña Concha y Toro announces that Alfonso Larraín Santa María is leaving his position as Chairman of the Board, a position that will be assumed by Rafael Guilisasti Gana, who until now served as Vice Chairman of the firm. Felipe Larraín Vial, meanwhile, will assume the vice chairmanship.
Alfonso Larraín Santa María announced his decision, citing personal reasons, at the board meeting on July 31st, where it was also confirmed that he will continue to contribute to the company as director.
At the same meeting, the board expressly recognized Alfonso Larraín for his “important and invaluable contribution during his 27 years as President, highlighting his leadership in the growth and transformation of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., which has enabled it to achieve its current prestige and global reach.”
Larraín Santa María took office as President in 1998, replacing Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, during a period in which he has been a key player in the growth and globalization of Viña Concha y Toro, thanks to his experience and knowledge of the industry.
It was during these years that the company consolidated its international expansion, with its first office abroad, located in the United Kingdom, the first link in a wide distribution network comprising 12 offices in key markets. Today, more than 85% of Viña Concha y Toro’s revenue comes from abroad, thanks to its products being sold in more than 130 countries. It is the number one player in the industry in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico, as well as being among the largest players in the global wine industry.
Rafael Guilisasti Gana joined Viña Concha y Toro in 1978 and served as Export Director between 1985 and 1998, a period in which Viña Concha y Toro experienced significant expansion into international markets. In that year, he became Director of the company. He is currently also Chairman of the Board of Viñedos Emiliana S.A., a company in the same business group, and Director of Viña Almaviva (a joint venture between Viña Concha y Toro and Baron Philippe de Rothschild).
