The website of the renowned wine critic released a preview of his next report on Chilean wines, prepared after a visit to Chile by Zekun Shuai, the magazine’s senior editor.

Some of the wines from Viña Concha y Toro were highlighted by James Suckling in a new preview of what will be his report on Chilean wines, all framed in the recent visit of the senior editor, Zekun Shuai, who had the opportunity to enjoy some of the company’s wines.

Don Melchor 2021 especially stood out with 99 points and was described as “Graphite ash, cassis, iron, blackberries, with a touch of tobacco and chocolate. Lots of violets as well. Rich and intense, with a full-bodied palate. Shows density and very fine but structured tannins. Long and intense finish with lots of flavors. One of the best in recent years”.

Similarly, Carmín de Peumo 2021 stood out with 97 points: “A beautiful, fresh and lush expression of Carmenere, with plenty of dark spices, cassis, black cherries, cocoa powder and flowers. Savory yet lucid, fresh and precise with layers of fruit. Pure but intense, with impressive concentration. The tannins are evenly distributed across the palate.”

Marques de Casa Concha Heritage 2021, meanwhile, scored an outstanding 94 points. The critic describes it as “Immediately penetrating, with a mix of red and black cherry, some strawberry and fennel spice as well. Medium-bodied on the palate, refined and saline, which gives it a delicious, juicy flavor. The tannins are silky and polished.”
