Viña Concha y Toro forms part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for a sixth consecutive year
The company was included in this leading international sustainability index, being placed eighth in the global Beverages category.
Viña Concha y Toro once again performed strongly in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, being ranked eighth globally in the beverages category, together with Coca-Cola Japan and Asian company Faser. Viña Concha y Toro was the only wine company in the world to be included in this major sustainability ranking produced by the New York Stock Exchange and S&P Dow Jones Indices.
The company has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Chile for six consecutive years and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index MILA for five years, demonstrating its sustainability leadership on a regional level. “It is highly rewarding to see that the company’s efforts over the years are visible in major indices such as Dow Jones. This year, the questionnaire was more demanding as it incorporated new topics, and as such the overall industry average fell across all dimensions. In relative terms, Viña Concha y Toro increased by five percentage points compared to the Beverages industry”, said Viña Concha y Toro Sustainability Director, Valentina Lira.
The company also scored above average on the three dimensions assessed—economic, environmental and social—confirming Viña Concha y Toro’s solid position on sustainability issues. Its strongest performance was in the environmental dimension, where it was awarded 78 points, 48 points above the industry average. This year, the company stood out for its sustainable agriculture practices, improving in areas such as commitment to sustainable agriculture and operational eco-efficiency, as well as making progress on its carbon footprint and water use parameters.
Viña Concha y Toro was included in the first local sustainability index, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Chile, in 2015, with only the top-performing companies in each sector being invited to participate. Due to its market capitalization, the company was invited to participate in the DJSI MILA and Chile indices, and is the only wine company in Chile and globally to participate in this highly competitive category, in one of the top-performing industries in the ranking.
