Viña Concha y Toro is part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2023 Yearbook
The publication highlights the companies that are in the top 15% in the world for their ESG performance globally and in their industry.
During February, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) released its Yearbook 2023, a publication that highlights the best companies in the world for their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance globally and by industry, based on the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).
Viña Concha y Toro is part of this prestigious yearbook, reaching the 93rd percentile in the beverage sector. “This result demonstrates the work done over time by the company and puts us on track towards our goal of being in the 95th percentile by 2025,” said Valentina Lira, Viña Concha y Toro’s Sustainability Director.
For the preparation of this ranking, 9,400 companies from 62 industries were evaluated, and only 759 were selected with a high score in the CSA. From the beverage sector, specifically, 81 companies were analyzed, of which only 13 appear in the yearbook.
In addition, on an annual basis, Dow Jones provides a comprehensive look at the milestones or trends that marked the year. In particular, for 2023, it highlighted the challenges of the beverage sector, noting: “The global beverage industry continues to face significant disruption, with impacts felt across the entire value chain having potential long-term implications on sourcing strategies and distribution networks. The focus on health and nutrition continues to drive changes both in the market and in companies’ strategies. The demand for carbonated soft drinks has been in decline, particularly in developed markets, with preferences shifting towards more natural ingredients, healthier alternatives and lower-calorie substitutes. Producers of alcoholic beverages have long faced legal barriers in developed markets, but they must also maintain effective and responsible marketing strategies in emerging markets with fewer regulations. Packaging represents a significant sustainability challenge, with companies expected to develop alternative packaging solutions and improve reusability, collection and recycling rates. Water stewardship is an ongoing concern for producers and local governments, making the management of water-related risks key to supporting a sustainable, long-term production base”.
