Jancis Robinson MW highlights Don Melchor 2021
The famed English wine critic awarded outstanding 18+ points to the 35th vintage of Puente Alto’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon, Don Melchor 2021.
The English Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson, recently published a new score for the 35th vintage of Don Melchor. The renowned wine critic rated the 2021 vintage of the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon with an outstanding 18+ points and described it as follows:
‘Quite simply on pouring there is a fragrance of ripe, characteristic and certainly not overdone fruit. This is a glorious blend of fully ripe Cabernet, which is very much at home in Chile’s premier Cabernet area, just outside Santiago. There is that special stony mineral character of this vineyard in abundance, but the fruit overwhelms it and there is a beautiful lift on the palate. Winemaker Enrique Tirado and consultant winemaker Eric Boissenot must be very excited about this very special vintage. It’s already lovely, but based on that 2019 vertical tasting, I would expect it to have a very long life. The velvety tannins are still in abundance. Chile can be very proud of this wine,’ says Jancis Robinson.
Don Melchor 2021, which is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot, reflects all the energy and finesse of the Don Melchor vineyard located in the acclaimed Puente Alto appellation.
