Viña Concha y Toro received the Cool Place to Bike award
With more than 18,253 km traveled and 4.2 tons of CO2 emissions saved -equivalent to 1,547 liters of fuel not consumed, 279 trees planted, 86,698 minutes of exercise and 420 thousand calories burned- Viña Concha y Toro was distinguished by Cool Place to Bike in the large companies category, thanks to the effort of its collaborators who joined this initiative.
As an action aligned with its sustainable objectives, Viña Concha y Toro joined the Cool Place to Bike initiative: to discourage the use of cars and reduce CO2 emissions thanks to transport by bicycle. Through an app, developed by Kappo Bike, the use of the bicycle among the workers of companies from different industries was promoted. The application measures, among other parameters, the daily trips made by bicycle or on foot. All the employees of Viña Concha y Toro were invited to download the app and participate in the campaign, which took place during November.
The Cool Place to Bike award recognizes the companies that managed to reach their goals thanks to the motivation of their collaborators. In this sense, Viña Concha y Toro far exceeded all its figures stipulated at the beginning of the campaign that lasted a month.
Motivation in teams
Patricio Pérez and Francisco Donoso, both collaborators of the Bodega Genérica of the Lontué Plant of Viña Concha y Toro, participated in the group that led the scores of the wine company.
“Of the seven that make up the group, four of us worked together. Every day we asked each other if they were going to ride their bicycles and the distance they had in mind. It was an instance to communicate and complement each other, there was more concern for the others. It was very entertaining”, said Francisco Donoso.
Benefit in health and quality of life
“This initiative not only contributes to the environment, but also benefits the competitors, improving their health and quality of life, which is verified by seeing the final result: in total 419,000 calories were burned, 31,250 trips were made, which is equivalent to 274,000 kilometers. Graphically, it can be expressed as seven turns to Earth. In addition, 6.3 million calories were burned, which can be compared to the consumption of 28 thousand “mote con huesillos” or 12,600 empanadas”, said Iván Páez, founder and CEO of Kappo, on the figures of the total number of participating companies.
Finally, Páez pointed out that 55% of the companies that participated in Cool Place to Bike achieved – and in some cases exceeded – their objectives, so he hopes to increase the call for the activity that will take place in April 2019. According to his words, the objective is that the conscience for health and the environment be installed as something fundamental in the country.
