Amelia leads international blind tasting and confirms its position among the world’s great Chardonnays
In a recent blind tasting led by renowned US wine educator Matthew Horkey, Amelia Chardonnay 2023 was selected as the No.1 wine, standing out among a lineup of five Chardonnays from leading regions in the United States, including California and Oregon.
In this demanding format —where labels, origin and any potential bias are removed— Amelia was the only Chilean wine in the selection, outperforming internationally acclaimed benchmarks and confirming its quality on a level playing field.
The assessment was unequivocal. Matthew Horkey described it as: “One of the highest-scored white wines in the history of this channel. 96+ points, this is the Amelia Chardonnay 2023, made by Concha y Toro. This is a wine geek’s wine — it’s slaty, it’s lean, it’s mineral — outstanding. I know all these wines are not cheap, but to me this is worth every penny. I think it’s excellent, especially if you like that high-acid, mineral-driven style. Concha y Toro knows what they’re doing.”
It is worth noting that Matthew Horkey visited Chile last year, where he had already highlighted the exceptional quality of Amelia, including it among his standout wines of 2025. This new recognition —this time in a blind tasting— further reinforces the wine’s consistency and consolidates its positioning as one of the leading cool-climate Chardonnays on the global stage.
