Viña Concha y Toro leads Science Based Targets workshop for the wine industry
In order to continue strengthening its sustainability leadership, together with Wines of Chile, Viña Concha y Toro – Family of Wineries organized a novel workshop on “Carbon Emissions Management and Science Based Targets (SBT)”.
On this occasion, after becoming the first Latin American company to implement emissions reduction goals approved by Science Based Targets (SBT) in 2019, which are aligned with the objective of maintaining global warming below 2.0°C, Viña Concha y Toro was able to share its experience and relevant information with other industry players in order to urge the Chilean wine industry to become a pioneer in the measurement and reduction of its carbon footprint.
The objective of this activity was to call on member wineries to participate in a workshop focused on Science Based Targets’ (SBT) international methodology which, in addition to measuring and managing emissions, also enables impact reduction initiatives to be identified.
“This is the first time that an industry-specific SBT initiative has been carried out, which demonstrates the major efforts by the Chilean wine industry to progress on sustainability issues. It also shows the progress that various wineries have made in implementing Science Based Targets (SBT) collaboratively as a group”, said Vina Concha y Toro’s Sustainable Development Manager, Valentina Lira.
