Viña Concha y Toro participates in the visit of Walmart’s CEO

The company was present at a day framed by the visit of Doug McMillon, Walmart’s global CEO, who shared with some domestic companies and referred to their sustainability policies.

Viña Concha y Toro, through our Sustainability Director, Valentina Lira, participated in a meeting with the CEO of Walmart global, Doug McMillon. On this occasion, Walmart made a presentation with the major milestones of Walmart Chile, for which Viña Concha y Toro was chosen as a representative of the suppliers of the Gigaton project.

During the event, our climate change strategy, commitment to CO2 reduction and how regenerative practices help us in our environmental and social goals, as is the case of the Gigaton project, were also presented.

The Gigaton project seeks to reduce emissions in the global value chain by one billion metric tons, one gigaton, by 2030. By 2020, Gigaton already exceeds 400 million metric tons of CO2, thanks to the collective effort of nearly 4,500 suppliers that have joined Walmart’s markets in the United States, Canada, China, Mexico and Central America.

Giga-Guru suppliers are those that have set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound) targets and reported emissions reductions in the most recent year, including Viña Concha y Toro.

Our carbon footprint measurements between 2011 and 2021 showed a 49% decrease in CO2e in direct emissions (produced by the company), while indirect (suppliers) reflected a decrease of 30%. Between 2017 and 2021, the company has accumulated reductions that go beyond its voluntarily set targets. In 2021, the tons of CO2e emitted amounted to 181 thousand, when the projected was 225 thousand tons.
