Viña Concha y Toro recertified in National Sustainability Code

For the fifth consecutive time, the company was certified by Wines of Chile in its standard aimed at incorporating sustainable practices in Chilean wine companies.

Viña Concha y Toro was certified in the National Sustainability Code promoted by Wines of Chile. This Code was initiated in 2011 (only in vineyards) as a response to the national industry’s transversal commitment to achieve responsible production along with the need to use natural resources efficiently and sustainably.

This standard aims to guide the Chilean wine industry and its suppliers towards sustainable wine production, based on high social, environmental and quality standards. It also seeks to reduce risks in the production system and reduce the vulnerability of the sector in the environmental field and climate change that affect the wine industry.

The code is aimed at incorporating sustainable practices in Chilean wine companies, based on requirements in four complementary areas:

  • Green area: this area contemplates the company’s own fields. It is divided into 3 chapters covering pre-planting, established vineyards, and implementation and follow-up.
  • Orange area: This area contemplates Type A fields submitted for green area certification (Type B fields are addressed through the chapter related to suppliers); wineries, bottling and packaging plants, offices and other facilities related to wine production, submitted for red area certification; central offices and others with human resources management.
  • Red area: This area includes wineries, bottling and/or packaging plants and other facilities related to wine production.
  • Purple area: This area applies to any physical part of the company where wine tourism activities are carried out within the winery’s facilities.

In this fifth certification, the company obtained 98.4% compliance in the green area, 96.9% in the red area and 96.8% in the orange area.
